After photos surfaced from the Met Gala last week, the beauty blogosphere went into a tizzy. Not only did Beyonce sizzle (as usual!) in a bum-baring gown, but it seemed like many of the celebs, including Camilla Belle, Jessica Alba, and Kate Bosworth got the same memo: WEAR THE DARKEST LIPSTICK YOU OWN.
That got us thinking: Is super-dark lip lacquer suddenly the thing for spring and summer? “Vamp lips are a natural extension of the lip focused makeup trend that hit the runway this Spring (for Fall 2012), but it’s a trend that’s been on and off for decades,” said Dana Chasen, a makeup artist consultant and owner of Beauty Muse Bridal in Boston, Mass. ”Dark lips have been hot with makeup artists and celebrities this spring because they are a fantastic juxtaposition to both the lady-like cuts and fabrics, as well as neutral focused metallics, that are on trend for the next few seasons.”
Awesome. We love a rich lip, and for good reason. “While dark lips can certainly make your teeth appear pearly white and make light colored eyes really ‘pop,’ the best benefit of vampy lips is confidence, says Chasen. “It’s a bold look that makes you stand a bit taller and smile a bit sexier.”
